Valentina Conchie ⚫️ Vibrant Cuckoo
Valentina Conchie is a figurative artist working in painting, photography, and collage. Originally trained in medicine, she later found her true calling in art after moving to Singapore. Creativity had always drawn her, and she embraced it as a powerful way to express ideas and narratives. Valentina blends folklore, Neo-Primitivism, Naïve, Psychedelic, and Pop Art into a vibrant fusion of contemporary visuals. Her distinctive style is defined by retrospective female portraits, initially inspired by Kabuki masks. Over time, her central character evolved into a vivid heroine, journeying through adventures alongside allegorical creatures representing different phenomena, characters, or events. Many of Valentina’s works are given human names, adding a deeper narrative layer to her art.
Being a mother of two, Valentina draws inspiration from the genuine positivity, imperfection, and humour children bring to their creations. This influence adds spontaneity and playfulness to her work.
Each piece Valentina creates serves as a whimsical visual narrative—a metaphorical fable—where her personal experiences, impressions, and emotions intertwine with broader themes of nature, multiculturalism, equality, and social or political issues. These topics are explored in a playful yet meaningful way, often incorporating elements of satire. Inspired by ideals of positivity and transformation, Valentina brings vibrant energy to her work, inviting viewers to find joy and meaning, while embracing the belief that art has the power to transform negativity into light in an increasingly chaotic world.
Originally from Moscow, Russia, Valentina has lived and worked in Singapore for the past 10 years. Exhibition highlights include the Salon Des Étrangers at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024) and a solo exhibit at The Other Art Fair in Melbourne (2025). She regularly exhibits in Singapore, and her works are held in private collections worldwide.
